How it All Started part one
August of 2024 we were having Sunday dinner at our home. Our daughter and son-in-law join us every Sunday after church with their 3 littles, number four was on the way.
Our son-in-law casually announces that he is in the process of a transfer with the Army and the family will be moving in February….prior to the birth of Number Four. I held it together for about a minute and then had to excuse myself. I went to our bathroom and had a good cry, cleaned up my face and rejoined the family at the dinner table.
What’s Next?
That began the conversation for real. Gary and I had “talked” about retiring in an RV. But now we had some very real conversations. See, we have eight grandchildren in three states. Seeing everyone is a challenge. We have four grands in Alabama, one in Georgia (not the bordering sides of the states) and three in Pennsylvania. Did I mention my husband won’t fly?
Our first order of business was to see if we could really be in that space together!
RV Tutorial
Let me do a quick tutorial on RVs, for those who do not know. You have travel trailers that you tow behind a vehicle. These can range from a tiny tear drop to the gigantic 5th wheels. Then there are the kind you drive. They come in Classes- Class, A, Class C and Class B. A B is a van. A C is the next largest, usually with a cab that looks like a truck , or some can look like the front of an 18 wheeler (Super C). Lastly you have an A. For years I called them Winnebagos. That is like the difference between “Kleenex” and “tissues”. A Class A is the type of RV, Winnebago is a brand.

We knew we did not have the money to purchase a truck AND a 5th wheel so we began exploring Class Cs and Class As. In our area it is hard to find a dealership that carries As so we took a detour on our next mini weekend, went to a large dealership in Ringold, GA and spent hours touring used RVs.
What we discovered is we prefer a Class A, diesel versus gas and we could definitely live in one of these!
To be continued….
