Star Gazing
One of the things I have been looking forward to in this season is star gazing.
I have been waiting for an opportunity to see the sky in all its glory at night.
I had high hopes for the state park we were heading to in Florida. It's a state park, right? They are in the country, right? Nope. Not this one. I was watching the GPS on Monday afternoon. We were getting closer and closer to our destination yet still on a four lane road in the middle of the congestion of mini marts, fast food restaurants and the hustle and bustle of life. The road turned from four lanes to two. We turned off the road and drove maybe a half mile...
But I am not easily dissuaded and today has been such a Banner day, I thought, why not. I was reading in my bedroom and thought...let's try it. My room was dark but it was not dark outside. So I went back inside and set my alarm for 15 minutes. 10 minutes passed and I thought I would try again. Still not completely dark but getting close.
Gary came out, saw it wasn't spectacular and went back inside. I was willing to wait. The site next to us was vacant so I went over to the picnic table...a big old wooden type, and climbed aboard. I actually laid down on the table and just stared at the stars.
Job 38:31-32 says:
“Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades?
Can you loosen Orion’s belt?
Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons
or lead out the Bear with its cubs?”

I will confess I do not know my constellations. I found a dipper but I'm not sure if it was the big or little one. 🤷🏼♀️ I also think I found Orion’s belt. That's it. That's the extent of my knowledge of stars. And looking up into the night sky...I have no idea what God put there and what Elon put there. But I know God put more. I also saw two shooting stars.
Was it the perfect night? No. There was some light pollution from neighboring suburbia...and a campground host afraid of the dark 🤦🏼♀️
And noise. I can see the two-lane road. It was not quiet. Some day. Somewhere. I will have a spot where I can see the galaxies. But for today, for my favorite day, it was the perfect ending!!
Get out there. Watch a sunrise or sunset. Go star gazing. Be amazed at God’s handiwork. Be careful, do not worship creation. But, please, by all means….Worship the CREATOR!!
