TRAVEL DAY 3.0

So far so good??   We chose an earlier departure time today.  We have learned if the GPS says one arrival time....we need to add to it.  Last travel day said under three hours and it took us four...there was an accident that halted traffic on an interstate.  But we just don't drive the 70miles an hour everyone else is driving.  We are very large and very heavy.  Despite that, or because of that?? We are all over the road.  Today was the first non windy day and that seems to be helping.
But I have gotten ahead of myself
Because we only stayed four nights and five days at the state park I didn't take out a lot of our home decor so I had less to pack up last night and this morning.
The man we purchased the RV from very kindly did a lovely check list for us which I laminated.  I started down the list right after doing the breakfast dishes this morning.
Gary takes care of the outside things, I take care of the inside.   We have what are called slide outs.  That means four different parts of our living space expand when we are parked....we slide them out.  Conversely, when we travel they come in.  Part of preparations on travel day include making sure nothing impedes the movement of the slides.
We worked our way down the checklist.  Each of us with our tasks.  Today's new adventure was a dump station....yes, more potty talk! 🤣
At most privately owned campgrounds you have "full hook up" which includes water, electricity and sewer.  At a state park you usually don't have sewer.  So, this means on your way out you need to get rid of the black tank and the gray tank.  In order to conserve water going into the tank we showered at the bath house which was not a bad experience at all.  (I'll do a ranking post later to review the state park and its amenities.)
The campground had a crushed shell surface in the sites so Gary decided we would load up the car in the parking lot on solid surface.  Broken pieces of shell hurt when you lay in the ground.
Okay. Slides in, jacks up, air lifted, we were ready to move....to the dump station.  I drove the car and Gary drove the RV.  He was able to dump without incident ...Praise Jesus.  He had been a little nervous about his first dump station...you hear horror stories!!
Then we loaded up the car.  I love helping with this part.  I get the tire harnesses on and the safety chains fastened!  We tested the lights and we are ready to roll.
PSA.  Just a side note... Folks, don't change lanes or pull out in front of an RV.  We are like an 18 wheeler and we cannot stop on a dime.  When we purchased her and we were driving her back to Alabama I was in front with the car and Gary was following me.  In one of the little towns I stopped for a yellow light he thought I would run...he was not too pleased with me.  I know now....keep going!  So, all you drivers out there....pay attention to your surroundings when driving.  🥰
Two hours in and we merged onto  Route 10.  The sign says Jacksonville or Tallahassee.  Gary says, "last chance....". I said don't joke!  I'm sure this is the longest I have gone without seeing Sterling since February began and I miss him.
Once we merged onto 10 West I said, "okay Lord, we need a rest stop please.". The words were barely out of my mouth and there was a sign!!!  Rest stop ahead!  We got to park in the big lot with the big truckers!! 🤣
Gary tightened down the car harnesses, and we used our own potty.  🥰. And then he had lunch at our kitchen table.  This really is a sweet life!!  I hadn't put tomatoes in his sandwich in case he had to eat it while he was driving.  But since we were sitting still, I pulled out the tomatoes and the banana peppers to doctor up his sandwich!!
We still have three hours to go but so far, so good.  🙃
The previous owner installed a CB radio in our rig. Today we were driving and a voice comes over the radio, "You are about to lose your yellow bike back there."  Oh no.  That's us.  Gary slows and pulls over, a wide load passed us as says...."I got him to pull over".  We ran back to the bikes.  They are fine.  I am not kidding you.   This trucker thought it was funny to endanger our lives and our home to get us to pull off on the shoulder littered with debris to check our equipment.   Then we have to pull back out into traffic.  I am so angry right now I am shaking.  Who does that???  I got on the radio and said " Oversized load.  Oversized load on Route 10 West...that was not cool." Great, I got go, Holy Spirit wants me to pray for him....

Just stopped to top off fuel. Half is the new empty.  We can't let it get anywhere close to under a quarter. The generator pulls from the same tank and that hose comes in at 1/4 of a tank.

We last topped off on January 31st shortly before our Woodbine destination.  Today we didn't want to wait until we got into a town and didn't have access to truck stops. Gas stops are much more strategic with 50 feet of vehicle to consider.

Half a tank of diesel fuel….

We are staying with family for the weekend, in their driveway! More on that adventure to come!!!

Thank you for stopping by and following our adventures! Have the best day!♥
