10 things I do differently living in an RV

1.      I ration toilet paper.

RV toilets are not like your house toilet.  Everything gathers in the black tank.  The jury is out on RV toilet tissue.  Some RVers say it’s a MUST, some say it is not.  We use regular toilet paper but I am limited in how much I may use.

2.      I put things away.   Clutter is bad.  Even cooking I have to preserve my precious counter space.

I am a clutterer by nature.  Previously on my desk at work, the island in the kitchen, my dresser in my bedroom…you get the picture.  If I could gather things, I did.  I knew (mostly) where things were.  But I didn’t always put things where they belonged.  NOW, everything has its place and it must be put away in that space.

3.      I squeegee the shower

You will hear me say, over and over, how harmful moisture is in the RV.  One way to eliminate water post shower is to use the squeegee.  I don’t hate this. The shower doesn’t get soap scum buildup because I am wiping it down after every shower!

4.      I MUST remember to use a fan when I cook

This was a new habit.  We have a lovely “fantastic fan” in our kitchen area.  It even has a remote!  But remembering to use it every time I am in the kitchen cooking has been a learning curve.  But we all know that steam while cooking creates moisture…and we already covered how harmful moisture is!

5.      I MUST remember to use a fan when I shower

This one isn’t as hard to remember because a fan in the bathroom was a sticks and bricks habit already.  This was not a pleasant habit when it was 20 degrees outside.  I literally turn a crank to open a hatch and then turn on the fan.  The purpose is to blow the inside air out, but when it is frigid outside, the cold outside air did come in!

No lingering in a hot steamy bathroom.

6.      I don't run the water before I get in the shower...I'm not quite at a camp shower yet though.

The best news is, I get hot water in under 10 seconds.  The other great news is I have NOT run out of hot water yet in a shower!  But what I can’t do is start the water and then floss my teeth before getting in.  It’s “get in and get going”!

 7.      I turn my socks the right way when I take them off.

This one has nothing to do with living in an RV.  But we go to a laundromat now to do our laundry and the very first time we went together I watched my husband fix my laundry right there in the Laundromat.   I was immediately convicted of making extra work for him.  Now I make sure all of my clothes are turned the right way before I put them in the laundry basket.  It’s the little things!

8.      I don't weigh myself every morning anymore.

The RV might not be level and I get a different reading at different locations.

9.      I close the door every time I use the restroom.

It's just two feet from my bed on one side and two feet from the kitchen table on the other.   Privacy is almost nonexistent.  Now that the weather is warmer Gary has the bathroom doors propped open during the day and the blind up on the window and the window open.  All of the blinds are up and the windows are open.  He makes fun of me but I am closing ALL the doors and pulling the blinds when I use the restroom!

10. I bite my tongue.

This is way too small a space to pick fights with my husband!  Gary told me the first week we got to Georgia and I no longer left the house to work that I have quirks.  What? Me? Quirks?  When you are with someone 24/7 there are no secrets and all the quirks are revealed!!!
