Chattahoochee RiverWalk
We lived in Phenix City Alabama for almost 7 years. So when we left South Georgia to come to Alabama we wondered what we would do for our Friday adventures.
But truly, Columbus is not lacking at all for things to do. We have ridden the length of the RiverWalk complete but it on two occasions.
The first Friday we put in at Hemlock Park in Bibb City and rode to the softball complex. This was not a long ride but it was a good stopping point and the weather was about to turn on us.
Today we put in at the softball complex to ride south. We stopped at Oxbow Meadows and ate your picnic lunch.
We did not explore Oxbow today but I have in the past. This is a lovely day trip for families. There is so much for the littles inside and out. You know my home school heart loves a good field trip!! Oxbow is an Environmental Learning Center in collaboration with Coumbus State University. They have a lot of activities and programs. Check out their website: _About Us - Columbus State University_

After lunch we continued on the RiverWalk to Camp David...not the one you are thinking of. A campground in Columbus, Ga on the other side of Historic Westville. Historic Westville is an open history museum depicting life in the mid nineteenth century. It is currently only open on Fridays and Saturdays.
We were blessed with lots of flora and fauna. We saw three deer near the Columbus water works. Two adult deer were on one side of the fence and a very very young fawn was on the other. The poor little thing couldn't figure out how to get back over.
Later we saw more deer on two other occasions.
Also, it's mimosa season here in the south. This aromatic tree is one of my favorites. We saw it in three different colors, a light pink, a deep pink and pure white.

In returning to South Commons we passed the National Civil War Naval Museum. Years ago someone blessed us with free tickets to the Naval Museum. This is another educational day trip for families. The cost is $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for students, but it is very informative. Who knew the Navy and Columbus had a significant role in the Civil War!
So, if you live in Columbus, get out and explore this wonderful town full of activities indoors and out. If you are looking for a great place to visit, come visit Columbus, Georgia and explore all it has to offer.
