A Favorite Day
Today marks our two month anniversary #rvliving #fulltimers. And I think it might be my favorite day so far. The first four weeks I was still working full time.
Not a lot of fun there. And the following week was spent hanging out with the Hole kids and saying goodbye. We had some fun field trips but the "see ya later"s were rough. Then there was Travel Day, which is a beast all to itself. Once we settled here into Woodbine we have had some lovely visits with the Georgia Hagmayers...playgrounds, field trips, family dinners and Alien Ice Cream. Last week Gary and I had a lovely beach day and greatly enjoyed historic Fernandina.
But today, today is what I have been waiting for!!!
We have not owned bicycles since we used to camp in a pop-up when the kids were small. I have been cycling indoors but I cannot tell you the last time I owned my own bicycle and rode outdoors.
I bartered for Madison's pretty yellow cruiser bike and Gary bought a bike at Academy Sports. That was four weeks ago. I have been literally chomping at the bit....waiting to get out there.
I was hoping for Jekyll Island today but the weather showed midday storms. So I thought maybe tomorrow.... ☹
But this morning Gary said we could go south. Our lovely waiter, Ashton from Sliders last week talked to is about riding bikes in Fort Clinch on Amelia Island. So today, on our two month anniversary, we loaded the bikes and headed to Fort Clinch.

We arrived sometime after 10. I cannot tell you how far we rode because I didn't properly start my "Map my Walk" app until after we had ridden quite a bit. It was a happy medium: we put in the effort but not so much we regretted it later. I can tell you we toured the state park, checked out the Sound, spied some great camp sites and rode all of the paved roads.
I am quite amazed I didn't eat a dozen bugs because I was grinning the ENTIRE TIME! The historic canopy is so pretty, people were so friendly. We had an oatmeal creme pie snack and later we sat on the beach and enjoyed our lunch. Oh, and we saw owlets.
Okay, they are SUPER hard to find. Can anyone see the owlets? Let me know if you found them.
A crowd was gathered along the road inside the park. The area was marked off with cones and a guy with the biggest camera lens I ever saw was intent on something in the tree. There in the crook of a massive tree were two little fuzzy white baby owls. Never have I ever!!! In a neighboring tree were the massive parents. The Mom owl was so big and sternly eyeballing the onlookers. The dad owl was to her two o'clock and I didn't even see him until later looking at the photos.
After the bike ride we grabbed our sandwiches, water and beach chairs (how weird is it that beach chairs spend time in the back of the car on a regular basis???) and headed for the beach.

What a lovely lovely day. THIS is what retirement is about. There are days when I need to work and days when Gary has so much to do on the RV. And those days are good too, I am thankful for ALL the days. But sometimes you just need that perfect day to remember why you do the hard days!!! Today was it!
